The Shoals area prays for our friend “Peanut” and some friends posted these sentiments:
Teresa Black Tucker A lot of bad things have happened to him over his life. I remember him as a kid and people where mean and beating him up even back then. His Mother did her best..but she had her own problems along with his. Was very sad. But he STILL smiles…..
Peanut is A truly sweet and precious guy every time you see him he has A smile on his face he is friendly with everyone. I hugged him just the other day and he just busted out crying how could anybody hurt someone like peanut it hurts me to see him hurt. He will probably be scarred the rest of his life over this. But you know he is really brave. The whole community loves and cares about Peanut. I don’t think he had an enemy in the world. And I would like for everyone to keep Peanut in your prayers. Thank You

  1. I would like to request prayers for my aunt who moved from Sheffield to Dallas, then Arkansas. She is in a nursing home in Gravette, Arkansas. Her name is Ellen Peebles Dyer. She and my mother and us were close. She is reported by Arkansas family to think that she is living in Alabama. I am almost glad for that because I know she seemed happiest when she was with us back home.

    • JOhn Rhoads

I am John Rhoads. My mother was Mary Frances Peters. Daughter of Mom & Pop Peters born in 1919. Her sister, Virginia Peters, and her brother Ralph Peters. My mother used to go over to Helen Keller’s house in Tuscumbia to play. I was born in 1954 and spent Christmas and summers in Sheffield. We used to go to the Colbert County Theatre on Saturdays. The Liberty Market was where Pop Peters shopped. His brother, Uncle Charlie and he used to sit downtown. Mom & Pop Peters house was on River Bluff. Mom Peters took in boarders since the thirties. My recollection dates to 1960. Uncle Ralph had a farm outside Sheffield where he raised pigs and had a corn whiskey still with a young man he took-in called Roscoe. Bertha and Lester Johnson were my dad and mom’s friends. After Lester had his stroke in the early 90’s, he and bertha still recognized me. Mom Peters died in the early 70’s and Pop Peters died in the late 70’s. Your web site celebrates very old history which is good; however, the 20th century history has to be remembered as well. My mom remembers the Tennessee River flooding before the TVA which dammed the river at Wilson and Wheeler Dams. Which brought cheap electricity to the Quad Cities. Dry county! I still remember a Mayonaise jar filled with clear liquid!!!!!! Mom and Pop Peters’s 50th wedding anniversary in the 60’s. Let’s have a 20th century dialogue! Southern Sash, Dale’s Steak House, the department store in Florence which I can’t remember, Mama Maggie, the French woman who allowed Pop Peters to grow his “Maters” on her property which he used chicken shit as the best manure.
