The past is the present for future generations who do not know their history

Give me Liberty…

or give me Kroger. Those were the two Super Markets in Sheffield, at least that I remember, in my childhood. Oh, no wait, there was also the A & P. There was also Gosnell’s Grocery. There was also the Fruit Box. Blankenship Market downtown delivered your groceries; now that is the kind of service of a gone-by era. There was also Bevis Grocery. When one gets those old cog wheels running, there is no stopping them. And there may have been others.

Liberty Super Market is the featured photo and that particular Liberty Super Market was located on Royal Avenue in Florence. I shopped there some as a young adult.  Liberty Super Market, the one located downtown Sheffield is where most of our groceries came from when we were growing up. A new store building was built nearer our home in southwest Sheffield and that is where we shopped from that point.

Don’t forget Bill Blankenship! That was my Dad’s 1st job, delivering groceries for Bill (Blankenship Market).
